The Kidney Centre Institute is a testament to the generous spirit of the people of our great city. The goal of this 100-bed not-for-profit hospital is to provide specialized treatment of all kidney and kidney-related diseases free to poor patients, of which there are many in Pakistan.
The Kidney Centre Institute, since its inception, is entirely dependent on private funds and donations. It is in this regard that the Friends of The Kidney Centre Institute, have come to be a vital component of the hospital over the years. Their Special Events Committee organizes a variety of successful fund- raising events throughout the year to supplement growing financial needs as patient load increases and the hospital continues to expand and develop.
Collectively, events such as gala dinners, walks, musical concerts, fairs and the sale of promotional items also have considerable social and humanitarian value. In the long run they help to create greater awareness of the debilitating and all too often fatal nature of renal disease, which in turn leads to significant attempts at disease prevention.
The Friends of The Kidney Centre are a Society, consisting of over 158 Life/Annual members and have a Managing Committee comprising of 4 Office Bearers and 5 members. The Society holds elections regularly. Meetings of the Friends and the Managing Committee are held on a quarterly basis. As a result of the dynamic fund raising drives of the Friends and their Special Events Committee, approximately Rs. 333.4 million have been collected for the hospital over the last seventeen years. Thus, the Friends have every reason to be justly proud of their achievements especially as Pakistan is a poor and over populated country in which the state does not have adequate resources to be exclusively responsible for the manifold health needs of its citizens. |
