Dr. Salman El Khalid received his initial
education in Nigeria and then completed his MBBS from
University of Sind in 1984. After house job he joined
Aga Khan University Hospital for a 5 year residency
upon the completion of which he cleared his FCPS in
1991. He then went to UK for further training and
returned in 1992 after completing his FRCS. He rejoined
Aga Khan University Hospital as an Instructor in Urology.
In 1993 when The Kidney Centre started
its urology Department, Dr. Salman was offered the
Post of Consultant Urologist which he accepted as
a challenge and took up the initiative of building
up a new department in a new hospital. Since then
he has been working tirelessly as Head of Urology
Department and along with other Faculty and Staff
members has brought it to its current status whereby
it is a recognized unit by the College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Pakistan for Post Graduate Training
of doctors leading to award of FCPS.
Dr. Salman has actively participated
in several National and International Conferences
in Urology. He also went to Australia to receive training
in Renal Transplant and has initiate the Renal Transplant
Programme at The Kidney Centre. |

Dr. Aasim Ahmad passed his MBBS from Sindh Medical College in 1983 he then joined JPMC as a registrar; in 1990 he joined Aga Khan University as an instructor and rose to the rank of Associate Professor. He spent a year at Guys Hospital as a Renal Registrar.
Dr. Ahmad has rich experience in teaching and training, he is an examiner in nephrology for The College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan. He has on his credit many publications in peer reviewed journals and chapters in two text books; he is a reviewer for the Journal of Pakistan Medical Association, Journal of College of Physician and Surgeons, Pakistan and the Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences. He is a member of the International Advisory Board, Indian Journal of Medical Ethics.
In 2003 he pursued his interest in Bioethics and completed his Masters from University of Toronto. He is the chairperson of Bioethics Group and a member of Ethics Review Committee of Aga Khan University; he is also a member of Ethical Review Board of Médecins Sans Frontières (doctors without borders). |

Dr Syed Mamun Mahmud

Dr
Syed Mamun Mahmud is currently working as Asstt. Professor
in the Department of Urology, The Kidney Centre Postgraduate
Training Institute .
He did his MBBS from Sindh Medical College Karachi
in 1993 . After acquiring basic surgical training
at Aga Khan University Hospital, he joined Urology
Residency Programme at The Kidney Centre PGTI in 1999.
At the end of the programme he acquired FCPS (Urology
) in 2003 and continued as Senior Registrar at The
Kidney Centre PGTI for one year . Then he joined Ziauddin
Medical University Hospital (Clifton Campus) in 2005
as Asstt. Professor and in the same year acquired
Fellowship of European Board of Urology(FEBU) from
Paris, France. He then was offered a post of Asstt.
Professor at The Kidney Centre PGTI in 2006
which Dr. Mamun accepted as he found better
opportunities to pursue his interest in teaching and
training and also his growth as Urologist .
Dr Mamun is actively
involved in all teaching activities in the hospital.
As Senior Registrar (Urology) he initiated ‘Urodynamic
Meeting’ as part of academic routine in Urology
,which is first and the only in Pakistan . He has
been organizing workshops on Medical Error –Preventive
Strategy for the last two years for doctors and last
year for nurses. He has also been a driving force
in organizing the first Urology-Nephrology Kidney
Centre Symposium held in 2006 as convener and it has
now become a biannual feature of the hospital activities.
He has publications to his credit in both national
and international indexed journals. He is also a reviewer
for Journal of Pakistan Medical Association (JPMA
), Journal of College of Physicians and Surgeons
Pakistan (JCPSP) and Urology (Official Journal of
International Society of Urology-SIU).Dr. Mamun
has also served as Associate Editor of PAUS newsletter
( Official newsletter of Pakistan Association
of Urological Surgeons). He is member of Pakistan
Association of Urological Surgeons (PAUS) and
Socie’te’ Internationale d’ Urologie
(SIU).
He has special interest
in Stone Disease , Uro-oncology ,LASER and Laparoscopic
Surgery. In this connection he has attended Mini-fellowship
Course in Laparoscopic Urology in November 2007
at Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital (MPUH )
Nadiad India, a centre which has done nearly 1000
laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy besides other laparoscopic
surgeries and has recently initiated ‘Single
Port Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy’. |

Malik Anas Rabbani MBBS

Dr.
Malik Anas Rabbani passed his MBBS exam from Quaid-i-Azam
Medical College in 1989. After completing 4 years
residency in internal medicine, he passed his Fellowship
examination from College of Physicians & Surgeons
of Pakistan in 1998. Subsequently he joined Section
of Nephrology at Aga Khan University Hospital as an
instructor. In the year 2000 Dr. Anas won ISN-scholarship
for further training at Department of Nephrology,
Guy’s & St. Thomas Hospital London, UK.
After completing his training, Dr. Anas returned back
to Pakistan and joined Department of Medicine at AKUH
as a Consultant Nephrologist. In the April 2002 he
was awarded fellowship by International Society of
Nephrology. In 2004 he was promoted to Assistant Professor
Rank.
On June 2005 he joined The Kidney
Centre Post Graduate Training Institute as Assistant
Professor and Programme Director Post Graduate Training
in Nephrology. In 2007 he was promoted to Associate
Professor Rank.
Apart from clinical responsibilities
Dr. Anas has vast undergraduate and post graduate
teaching experience. Dr. Anas has more than 24 original
articles, published in National as well as in International
indexed journals. Besides publications he has presented
more than 15 papers at various National as well as
International Nephrology Forums. Dr. Anas has the
honor of having his abstracts accepted for presentation
during 2003, 2005 and 2007 World Congresses of Nephrology
held in Berlin, Singapore and Brazil respectively.
He has recently been selected by Asian Pacific Journal
of Nephrology as a reviewer. |

Kiran Nasir

Dr.
Kiran Nasir passed her MBBS from Dow Medical College
in 1997. She did he internships in general medicine
and general surgery from Civil Hospital Karachi in
1996. She joined Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation
(SIUT) as a post graduate trainee in 1999. She left
SIUT to complete her two years general medicine training
at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH). She rejoined
SIUT in 2003 to complete her nephrology training.
In January 2005 she went to Islamabad where she worked
as Chief Resident in Nephrology at Shifa International
Hospital Limited.
She got her Fellowship degree FCPS
from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan
(CPSP) in Nephrology in 2006 and joined The Kidney
Centre Post Graduate Training Institute as Consultant
Nephrologist and Faculty Member in June 2006. Since
than she is working on the same post. Along with that
she is Transplant Coordinator and Chairperson of Library
at The Kidney Centre Post Graduate Training Institute.
She is also Life Member of Pakistan Society of Nephrology
(PSN) and Coordinator of PSN Karachi Chapter.
She got interest in academics too.
Her publications are in process in multiple National
and International Journals. |
